Job opening. Postdoctoral researcher in computational nanophotonics and material science, to contribute to research modelling hybrid plasmonic photocatalysts.
We seek candidates with experience in computational modelling of nanostructured systems through ab initio or semiclassical methods, ideally with experience modelling some aspect of light-matter interaction. The context of this project is the development of new theoretical methods to model chiral growth of plasmonic nanostructures under circularly polarized light, through a detailed description of plasmon-driven photocatalysis. The incoming researcher will work in a project with great scientific and technological potential, bridging research in physics and chemistry, so that they will interact and collaborate with a diverse range of researchers, both within CINBIO and internationally.
Funding is provided by the Spanish Ministry for Science and Innovation (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) under the grant with code PID2023-146766NB-I00 (“CHIRON: Modelling light-to-matter CHIRality transfer mediated through plasmONic photocatalysis”) under the call “Proyectos de Generación de Conocimiento 2023”. The selected candidates will join the TeamNanoTech research group (https://cinbio.es/en/research/groups/teamnanotech-tnt), in Biomedical Research Centre (CINBIO), and will work under the supervision of Lucas Vázquez Besteiro.
Desired background for candidates
Common requirements: A good level of English (written and spoken). Capability of acquiring a visa for working in the European Union.
Postdoctoral researchers, theoreticians: Demonstrable research experience in modelling physical properties of nanostructures through analytic or numerical methods. Experience with first-principles techniques, such as DFT and ideally also using post-DFT formalisms modelling excited states, will be valued.
Job conditions. Full-time contract (37.5 hours per week) with a gross monthly salary ranging from of 2500 €. The initial duration of the contract is of 1 year, with the possibility of extending it. Anticipated starting date is May 15th, 2025.
Selection process. The selection process will be conducted officially by the University of Vigo to guarantee a transparent and open process. This is an expression of interest, as the application period will be only open officially for five days. The interested candidates should send a brief letter motivating their interest in the position, a complete CV in English and in pdf format, and contact information of two references to lucas.v.besteiro@uvigo.es.
Expressions of interest can be sent before the end of April 5th 2025 (CEST time)
About the centre. CINBIO is a multidisciplinary research institute hosting more than 200 researchers, between professors, postdocs, doctoral students and lab technicians. It was born of an investment stemming from University of Vigo’s mission to develop the field of biomedicine and biotechnology with a key differential element with other research centers of similar characteristics: its strong multidisciplinary nature. Our staff includes top level researchers in disciplines as varied as medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and computer science.
Besides its commitment to scientific excellence, CINBIO actively advocates gender equality. Its Equality Plan can be downloaded at https://cinbio.es/igualdade.
